Gate Driver with Digitally Controlled Slope Shaping

Goals

  • Investigation, modelling and optimization of the switching behavior of various power transistors (IGBT, CoolMOSTM, …)
  • Concept development for optimized gate drivers with digitally controlled slope shaping
  • Circuit Design
  • Target applications: Motor drive, SMPS, PFC

Motivation

Slope Shaping enables an easy trade-off between:

  • Low Switching Delay Variation
  • Low Switching Losses
  • Electromagnetic Compability (EMC)
  • Safe Operating Area (SOA)

The use of a digital control loop allows a high flexibility and powerful filtering, whereas analog loops have the ability to perform fast real-time regulation. A combination of both worlds in a mixed-signal solution can bring together the benefits of both worlds in one concept.
